There are different patterns for running. When you first begin to run the mile you will run a half mile, walk a quarter mile and sprint a quarter mile. Do this for two weeks. Then on week 3 do 2 miles, run the first mile then walk a quarter mile, then sprint a quarter mile, then walk a quarter mile, and sprint a quarter mile. Then follow this pattern up to six miles. You probably don't need more than 6 miles if you keep mixing up your program similar the the above. Interval training is another great way to improve fitness for MMA, to do this you can replicate a fight by running at higher intensity for 3 minutes and then jogging for a lower intensity for 30 seconds, gradually increasing the interval times to match that of an MMA fight. This training helps build both your anaerobic and aerobic thresholds, which in turn improves fitness. Special Equipment to Run In addition to good running techniques, you do need good running shoes. Maybe try running with a mouth piece in so that you get used to training and breathing. Heart rate monitors are another piece of equipment that can help show how hard a person is working during a workout. Using a heart rate monitor can provide very accurate results as to the level of fitness of the athlete. Why should you breathe through your nose? Breathing through your nose controls your heartbeat. That is what gives you endurance. You take so much oxygen into the lungs and the lungs control the heart beat. Also in the ring or on the mats you may have to wear a mouthpiece and this enables you to breathe easily through your nose once practised. What are breathing patterns? Your breathing pattern is the manner in which you take in oxygen and release carbon dioxide. The basic breathing pattern is a double short breath in and one breath out. Each individual will develop his own breathing pattern for the basic one. For example a breathing pattern can be one breath in and a double short breath out. Which may be the opposite to the normal one. Which ever way will still work. What are the best hours to run? The best time to run is 5 am and 6 am in the morning. Because your stomach is empty, you think your sharpest and you will be able to run your hardest. Also the air is the cleanest than it will be all day. Therefore not as much bad pollution will enter your lungs and body. The next best time to run is between 10 am and 11 am. In the evening it is always harder to run because of food stored in your stomach through the day and this will prevent you from pushing yourself.
