February 11th and 12th Gracie Barra North Houston had a successful showing at the 3rd annual IBJJF Houston Open!
Notable competitors include Corey Bacek with a gold place showing, Bailey Boyd winning his 2nd Gold medal of the year, Matthew Macione who fought hard in his tournament debut, Kaiden Kenepperath who had an awesome showing along with his father Brandon who earned some valuable competition experience. Coach Carlos Martinez went home with 2 medals, winning gold in his division then going on to a strong 2nd place finish in the absolute division. Prof Todd competed in his first Black Belt match, Mike Pollard tested himself with some stiff purple belt competition, and Big Joel Allen defended his title and won the gold medal for the 3rd straight year!
In the team division, Gracie Barra was able to walk away with a 1st place showing and team trophy presented to Gracie Barra's Texas director Professor Draculino! Awesome job Gracie Barra competitors and we look forward to the next one!!!
This Saturday and Sunday Feb11th&12th the IBJJF comes to Houston for it's 3rd annual Houston Open tournament!
We have several competitors competing including last year's purple belt absolute Champion-Big Joel Allen returning to defend his title, Coach Carlos Martinez will put it on the line this weekend, BJJ Standout Corey Bacek will return to action, as will Mike Pollard, Matthew Macioce, and father son duo of Branden and Kaiden Knepprath!!

It is a busy time right now at Gracie Barra North Houston, with so many competitions and events coming up, team morale has boosted higher than it has in a long time.
Coming up first is the Tournament of Champions Jan 14th to be held at the Spring Klein wrestling club. We are sending out a committed Coaching staff of Coach Carlos, Chris, Prof Alex and Todd to support our GBNH competitors and lead them to victory! Already slated to compete are Tre Mitchell, Duncan Rainey, Isreal Valdez, Memphis Ford, Tatum Ortiz, Braxton Husk, Ryu Turcios, Michael Reutzel, Miguel Romero and close to a dozen adult competitors!! Later in the month our MMA team kicks off the year with Ricky T representing us at the Legacy Amatuer Series here in Houston at the Arena Theater! As Coach Morono goes on vacation next week(dec 19th-23rd), we have some special guest Coaches to shake things up as he is away.
Monday night(@ GB MAG)- Undefeated Amateur and Professional MMA competitor Coach Jared Chaffee will be teaching the BJJ all evening long.
Followed by Wednesday morning at 11am(GB MAG) Texas BJJ State Champion-Coach Charles Lloyd will be teaching his unique blend of BJJ on the Magnolia mats!
That same evening-IBJJF MIAMI OPEN Champion-Coach Carlos Martinez will be teaching the No gi Wednesday evening at 7pm(@GB MAG)!!
finishing the week off with Coach Jarred again on Friday night(@GB MAG)!
All these classes are scheduled for GB Magnolia, take advantage students of the awesome Coaching we have available.
Hello students, please take note, on our Woodlands schedule the ibjjf competition class is currently slated for 6pm Thursdays followed by the black belt class at 7pm. *Those 2 classes will be switching places, the black belt class will now be 6pm Thursdays, followed by the competition class at 7pm effective immediately*
The schedule format for the site is currently having technical difficulties preventing us from making that change on the schedule section, for that we apologize.
In the meantime- get off the computer and break a sweat on those mats guys!!!!
